Distribution Accounting System w/ Barcode Labels
+ EDI
Problem
The customer, a telecommunications equipment
distributor was running a legacy Unix and Terminal based accounting
solution. The equipment infrastructure was rapidly
becoming obsolete, the software was terribly expensive to maintain and
support was typically slow.
The firm wanted to expand their sales
efforts to include e-commerce in the future and the existing system even
if upgraded was not capable of providing this new technology.
Some of the existing customers were interfaced
using EDI and required industry specific barcode labels on all
shipments.
Additional databases used in the business
included telefax lists, customized sales commission calculations, and
sales expense recording.
Solution
The AdvanTec Solution was to replace the existing
terminals with Windows 98 PCs and the Unix server with an Windows
SBS (Small Business Server). The accounting
package was replaced with UA Corporate Accounting with customized
modules for bar code labels, EDI, sales commissions, and expense
recording.
This totally integrated solution
incorporates custom and commercial off-the-shelf (EDI translator
component) and provides a simplified and unified work flow throughout
the enterprise.
The SBS server provides the additional
functionality of Proxy Server, High Speed Internet access, Exchange
Server/Outlook email, and desktop Faxing to all employees.
