Claims Adjustment & Accounting System
Problem
The customer, a small independent claims adjuster
was using a custom written MS-DOS business application that was
developed more than 10 years ago. Since then the developer had died and
now it was virtually impossible to maintain. This, coupled with a need
for new desktop computers, prompted the customer to investigate a new
solution. Since the office was only a five man office, the customer
wanted an economical solution.
Solution:
The AdvanTec solution was to replace some of the
existing workstations while upgrading memory in some others.
A workgroup peer-to-peer network was decided to be appropriate
and one of the new workstations was delegated to the role as workgroup
server and equipped with a tape back-up unit
The existing dos based business application was
replaced with a custom claims management application that interfaced
directly with UA corporate accounting (SM,
GL,
AR, AP) to provide billing.
This totally integrated solution enabled tracking
claims from individuals and the resultant billings to the 40+ insurance
companies represented. The peer to peer network also enabled sharing
printers and files throughout the workgroup.
This type solution can easily be extended to
medical, dental or other service industries requiring third party
billing.
